Reading Jazz with Jazz is an in-person, campus-wide reading event at Youngstown State University that brings Toni Morrison’s novel Jazz to life through spoken word and live music. The day begins at 9:00 AM with a live reading in the lobby of DeBartolo Hall. At 12:00 PM, participants will move to Bliss Hall for a live student jazz performance featuring musicians from the YSU Dana School of Music, before returning to the novel and concluding the reading at 3:00 PM.
Throughout the day, students and faculty will read selections from Jazz at various locations across the YSU campus, accompanied by live jazz music that echoes the rhythm, movement, and spirit of Morrison’s work. The event takes place on February 18, 2026, from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, at Youngstown State University (1 University Plaza, Youngstown).
