Hosted by Steeped Pearl Tea Co., Protecting Pecola is a community discussion centered on safety, care, and protection through the lens of Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye. In 2023, Steeped Pearl Tea Co. created Pecola, a custom tea blend inspired by the novel. In Morrison’s story, Pecola’s experiences reflect what can happen when vulnerable young Black girls are left unloved and unprotected.
This in-person gathering invites community members to come together in Lorain, Toni Morrison’s hometown, to discuss safety within our homes and neighborhoods and to consider how we can create additional layers of protection for the most vulnerable among us. Complimentary herbal tea will be provided as part of the conversation.
The event is scheduled for October 10, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 PM. The exact location will be shared once finalized.
