Ohio Celebrates Toni Morrison: Black Masculinity in Her Fiction features student presentations from AAS 3460: Black Men and Masculinities, taught by Dr. Jocelyn L. Brown at Ohio University. Students examine Black male characters from Toni Morrison’s novels through literary analysis and peer-reviewed scholarship, focusing on masculinity, power, vulnerability, and memory.
By centering complex Black interior lives shaped by history and place, the event reflects Morrison’s enduring influence on how Black masculinity is written, understood, and remembered. This hybrid program will take place on April 23, 2026, from 2:00–3:20 PM, with options to attend in Athens or via Microsoft Teams.
