Following the reception, Dayton Metro Library will host a screening of the 1998 film Beloved, based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel by Ohio native Toni Morrison. Set in post–Civil War Ohio, Beloved tells the story of Sethe, a formerly enslaved woman haunted by her past and the choices she made in pursuit of freedom.
This screening is presented as part of the Ohio Goes to the Movies – America 250 series, in partnership with The Charles F. Kettering Foundation, and is included in the statewide Beloved: Ohio Celebrates Toni Morrison initiative. The program invites audiences to engage with Morrison’s work through film, history, and shared viewing.
