Affrilachian Women, Place, and Memory in the Spirit of Toni Morrison is a public student showcase led by Dr. Jocelyn L. Brown’s course, The Black Woman, at Ohio University. Through original interviews with Black women in Appalachia and the Ohio River Valley, students explore themes of home, labor, caregiving, faith, foodways, and memory.
Centering lived experience and place, the event honors Toni Morrison’s legacy by highlighting Black women’s stories as essential to American history. The program will take place virtually on April 23, 2026, from 9:30–10:50 AM via Microsoft Teams.
