Join us for the premiere screening of History in Black: A Lorain County Series, produced by Emmy Award-winning storyteller Betty J. Halliburton, on September 13, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Elyria City Schools Performing Arts Center. This moving docuseries shines a cinematic light on three Lorain County stories of purpose, sacrifice, leadership, and legacy.
The program features “Beloved: A Celebration of You,” exploring Lorain native Toni Morrison’s roots and the statewide yearlong celebration ensuring her literary legacy continues to reach new generations; “Planted for Purpose,” highlighting Parris Smith and her journey from Lorain County to becoming the youngest president among the National Urban League’s 92 affiliates; and “History in Motion,” featuring Judge Farah Emeka and the history of Black achievement in Oberlin, including her milestone as Lorain County’s first African American female judge.
The afternoon will also include a discussion with docuseries participants, performances, and special recognitions. History in Black is presented as a Community Partner of the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival. Tickets are $15.
